Phantoms dominate during the Battle of the Bridge

DEPERE – The Battle of The Bridge rivalry game was played on Sept. 27, which was between West De Pere and De Pere. This game was anticipated to be one for the books, having the stands filled up for both the home and away teams, and even having a couple of Packer players come to watch. The West De Pere Phantoms would go on to win the battle with a 49-0 shutout over the De Pere Redbirds.

As the game got started West De Pere wanted to come out strong defensively and offensively. Their defense came out and stopped De Pere, forcing a turnover on downs but soon after went right back on the field and scored the first touchdown of the game.

But this was just the beginning for West De Pere as this seemed to be a recurring theme throughout the entire game. Once they received the ball back, West De Pere began to do what they do best, having QB Patrick Greisen airing the ball out to his receivers. Patrick had full trust in his receiver even saying “My receivers are dogs.”

Having this consistency throughout the first half West De Pere took the game to halftime with a score of 32-0.

After half-time West received the ball but shortly after threw an interception giving De Pere a chance to score. De Pere was able to make it inside the 10, but West De Pere’s defense stood strong. This was their chance to change the momentum but they weren’t able to execute. “It would have been nice to punch it in and get that momentum off of the pick but we didn’t… we have to learn a tremendous amount from this game,” said De Pere Head Coach Ben Strickland.

The defensive played a great game not allowing De Pere to score a single point. Having two interceptions and forced turnovers. “I think we did our job, we came out and shut them down early. Everybody came out and did their job, and executed well and we just kept that pace throughout the entire night” said Defensive End for West De Pere Kahli Davis.

Having such a great game offensively and defensively led West De Pere to a huge win with the final score being 49-0.

Even though West De Pere came out with the win in the football game, this game also led to a big community win as a whole. Being able to raise over $28,000 for a cancer patient. This was a testimony to showing the community love the De Pere area has for one another. “I’m proud of our guys, coaches and our community here, we raised over $28,000 for the LaPierre family, which is incredible.” said Head Coach Chris Greisen.
