On Friday, October 17, the Green Bay East Red Devils and Green Bay West Wildcats faced off under the lights in one of Wisconsin’s oldest rivalries– with Green Bay West coming out on top.
The energy was electric from the moment the game began, with both fan sections roaring as their teams traded possessions and big defensive stops through a scoreless first quarter.
The defensive battle continued into the second quarter until East finally broke through late in the half.
After a steady drive downfield, kicker Aidden Ramos nailed a field goal to put the Red Devils ahead 3-0.
A penalty forced a rekick, but Ramos stayed composed and drilled it again, giving East the lead with under three minutes left before halftime.
Both teams came out strong in the second half, fueled by the intensity of the crowd.
The rivalry’s energy filled the air as each side battled for momentum, but neither offense could find the end zone.
Every possession felt like it could swing the outcome, and as time ticked away, the tension only grew.
With less than a minute left, the Wildcats mounted one final drive.
With just 10 seconds remaining, junior Liam Letizia caught a pass in the endzone for a dramatic touchdown to put the Wildcats ahead.
A flag on the play brought a brief pause, but after officials confirmed the score, the West sideline erupted as they took a 7-3 lead.
East nearly pulled off a last-second miracle, driving down the field as time expired, but their final play was ruled just short of the goal line.
The Wildcats held on for a thrilling 7-3 win.
After the game, West head coach Drew Brusoe praised his team’s fight and composure. “It wasn’t pretty. This game never is,” Brusoe said. “You need to throw the records out, throw the stats out– this game takes all 48 minutes, and you saw that tonight.”
Brusoe credited his players for their resilience and energy. “I’m proud of the kids for bouncing back in the second half,” he said. “It’s an intense game. The crowd was going crazy on both sides, and for a moment, I thought we were at (Lambeau). I can’t be more proud of these boys.”
For Letizia, who caught the game winning pass, the moment was unforgettable. “There’s really no individual in football,” he said. “Everybody stepped up and did their job. Luckily, I caught the ball.”
As the Wildcats celebrated, the rivalry’s legacy continued– another thrilling chapter in the historic East vs. West showdown.
