How did you get started playing your sport?
I started volleyball during seventh grade for a week or two, but because of Covid, I wasnt able to finish my seventh or eigth grade season. I would say my freshman year was my first official year, but I wasnt even sure if I was going to play or not. I didn’t go to any of the summer workouts or the open gyms, but ended up going to tryouts and making the team. I originally started playing basketball in fifth grade, after moving to Green Bay from Appleton a couple of years prior, and it became one of my favorite sports. I played at Ashwaubenon up until eighth grade and then transferred to NDA for my high school career. Since the age of five years old, I’ve been playing softball. My family is really big on softball, and it has always come easy to me. I played in the Appleton area until I was nine, moved to Green Bay, then played at Ashwaubenon up until my high school years. Now I play at NDA.
How has the balance between academics and athletics changed for you from freshman to senior year?
My balance between academics and athletics has become much more intentional and disciplined. As a freshman, athletics often took priority, and I was still learning how to manage my time. I would often push schoolwork to the side, and I relied more on last-minute studying. By senior year, I’ve learned how important academics are for my future, especially with college and eligibility in mind. I now plan my schedule around both practices and schoolwork to stay ahead academically, while still competing at a high level.
What is your favorite part of this sport? What is the most challenging part of this sport?
What has been your most memorable experience in high school sports so far?
My most memorable experience was switching to NDA sports. I love how welcoming and encouraging every athlete and coach is... I remember coming in as a freshman from another school and not really knowing anyone, but there was zero hesisitation from the community here at school to get to know me and make sure I was comfortable.
Do you have a bucket list goal that pertains to your sport?
One goal that I had was to play at the colligete level, which I now have been blessed to do; thanks to my coaches, recuitors, teammates, trainers, etc. A goal that I now have is to be able to stay healthy and away from any sort of injury.
How does it feel as a senior, to look back throughout high school and see your growth (as a person and athlete)?
I feel as though I’ve grown into my character and now my perspective on things in life has changed. For example, the way I speak and the way I handle situations, along with my game in basketball; like seeing different things on the court and going through a life changing injury. Looking back through high school, it really is a blessing and a privilege to be able to play with the teammates I’ve had, and being coached by certain coaches. I’ve had the opportunities that many kids dream of.
Do you have any pre-game rituals/routines/superstitions?
My team and I always play the song “Shots” and bang on the lockers. Personally, I usually have some sort of smoothie like Dirt, Bonafide or Scooters. I also always have a snack at halftime during the game to keep my energy high.
Dream vacation destination?
Any quotes that help you in your sport or life in general?
“You’ll never believe it will happen to you, until it does.” - Cameron Brink
Favorite food?
Any pasta.
Random fun fact about you?
I’ve only had one surgery in my life.
Any hobbies outside of your sport?
I love to read.
Favorite movie/TV show?
Any memorable coaches or teammates you’d like to shout out?
The most memorable coach I’ve had was Todd Bierowski, simply because he’s always cheering for me, regardless of the sport. He still wanted me to be apart of a new team and new program, even with my season ending injury.
Future Plans? (college, major, career, etc.)
I plan to go to Grand Valley State University while studying to become a PT.
