At what age did you start playing your main sport?
Fifteen for football.
Who introduced you to the sport?
My dad.
Has this always been your favorite sport?
No, I grew up playing baseball since I was four years old, but as soon as I played football I fell in love with it.
What is your favorite part about this sport? What about it has caused you to stick with it for this long?
My favorite part about football is the sense of brotherhood and togetherness that it brings. Being able to go out with my best friends every Friday night and play in front of a crowd that supports us is a feeling that is extremely hard to replicate.
What is your current favorite subject/class in school and why?
What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome in your high school career of either athletics or academics?
Graduating a big senior class after my sophomore year, and having to become a leader and a captain as a junior on the football team.
Is there a professional athlete you look up to?
If so, why?
What has been your most memorable experience in high school sports so far?
Senior year of football as a whole, all the ups and downs and trying to enjoy every single moment of it.
How does it feel as a senior, to look back throughout high school and see your growth (as a person and athlete)?
It gives me a sense of pride to see how I’ve improved year in and year out. Every once in a while, I’ll have moments that I know I wasn’t capable of doing just a few months prior, and that makes me proud of who I have become.
What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve received from a teacher or coach?
My baseball coach, Coach Rukamp shows the baseball team a clip from Ted Lasso where he explains to an athlete “be a goldfish,” which means to have a short memory. This helped me because if I ever made a mistake, it taught me not to dwell on the past, move on, and do better the next play.
How do you prepare for a challenging game?
What do you do to relax afterwards?
I prepare for a challenging game by waking up on time and trying to be better than my opponent from the moment I wake up. I try to wake up on my first alarm, eat a good breakfast and stay ahead on my schoolwork. If I do all this, the actual game comes a lot easier and I have less outside factors I need to worry about.
What is a fun fact about you that most people might not know?
I almost exclusively only listen to 70s and 80s music.
If you could have any superpower to help you in your sport, what would it be?
Super speed.
Favorite song?
Do you have a favorite pre game snack or beverage?
Pedialyte pre game and skittles during the game.
Future Plans? (college, major, career, etc.)
Attend UW-LaCrosse and study exercise science.
