Green Bay volleyball enters conference play following nonconference momentum

Posted

Green Bay volleyball is carrying plenty of momentum into Horizon League play after a strong stretch against teams from some of the nation's top conferences. The Phoenix picked up huge five-set upsets over ACC opponent Virginia Tech and Big Ten opponent Northwestern last weekend before carrying that momentum into the Kendall’s Battle at the CCU Classic.

This weekend Green Bay swept Western Illinois in both matches of the double header, continuing its strong run heading into conference play. The Phoenix have also picked up back-to-back Horizon League Player of the Week honors. Junior middle blocker Diane Pichelman earned the award last week, while sophomore setter Alexa Hernandez was named Player of the Week this week. Hernandez also currently ranks 11th in the NCAA in assists this season.

With the nonconference portion of the schedule behind them, the Phoenix now turn their attention to Horizon League competition. Green Bay opens conference play Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26, against Oakland.
