Bay Port dominants Green Bay Preble 54-7

Posted

Green Bay- The Bay Port Pirates (7-1 overall) defeated the Green Bay Preble Hornets (3-5 overall) by a score of 54-7 on Friday, Oct. 9.

“After last week’s loss, we focused up everything in practice this week,” said Bay Port running back Jackson Smith.

Recap

The Pirates struck first with a couple of touchdowns from Jackson Otradovec and Ethan Orlando. At the end of the first quarter the Pirates would be up 21-0. The Hornets were able to get their first score with 10:57 left in the first quarter which was a touchdown catch from Tyler Cleven. Bay Port would add three more touchdowns before half, the touchdowns were from Bray Babich, Jackson Smith and Jackson Otradovec. The Pirates went into half with a 42-7 lead.

The second half didn’t see nearly as much scoring in this one. Due to WIAA running clock rules because Bay Port was up by 35 the clock never stopped in the second half. This led to only two second half touchdowns for the Pirates. One from Jackson Smith and the other from Jackson Madden. The finals score was Bay Port Pirates 54 Green Bay Preble Hornets 7.

“I liked the way we responded tonight, we have a great team with a larger goal and we’re going to go for it,” said Bay Port Head Coach Steve Jorgensen.

I talked to both running back Jackson Smith and bay Port head coach Steve Jorgensen about the team’s approach for the upcoming playoffs.

“You have to stay the course, keep doing what’s working, and trust that your coaches are going to put you in the right spot to succeed,” said Smith.

“We’re trying to get better every single week. We’ve had a goal all season to be a state champion football team, so we’re trying to play our best football next week against Ashwaubenon, so we’re ready to go for the playoffs,” said Jorgensen.

I discussed with head coach Jorgensen about the confidence level of his Pirates as the playoffs loom near.

“Higher than ever, I feel very confident in this group. We looked in the mirror as coaches and players. We played a very good West De Pere team, they deserve a lot of credit, but we saw a lot of areas that we know we can clean up,” said Jorgensen.

“I think our communication improved, but still continuing to improve with communication, our details on every single block, angles of our tackles. All the little things add up now,” said Jorgensen.

The Bay Port Pirates will look to secure their eighth win next week as they travel to face the Ashwaubenon Jaguars (5-3 overall).

The Green Bay Preble Hornets will look to secure their fourth win but they have a tall task next traveling to face the West De Pere Phantoms (8-0 overall).
