Princesses with a side of film awards and self defense

Calling all princes and princesses!

The pint-sized royals are invited to pose with a collection of classic Disney princesses at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Kidz Town in De Pere for its Princess and Me photo shoot.

Children will have the opportunity to meet Rapunzel, Mulan and Tiana.

Tickets are $30 per child and include four to six professionally-edited photos two weeks after the event.

MLC Scene Awards

May 28 and 29

Tarlton Theatre, St. Brendan’s Inn

Green Bay is playing host to the MLC Scene Awards Qualifier Gala this week.

The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at St. Brendan’s Inn, which includes a screening of multiple movies from Indie screenwriters and filmmakers from across the nation.

Filmmakers from California, Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and Illinois are coming to present their work.

The show continues at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 29 with more movie screenings and the MLC Scene Awards Qualifier Gala at the Tarlton Theatre – where awards will be handed out to local and national filmmakers.

At 3 p.m., actor and speaker Tony Shalhoub will host an in-person Q & A session.

Tickets for the awards gala start at $10.

Women’s free self-defense seminar

Saturday, May 28

Stevens Defense Academy, Green Bay

Steven’s Defense Academy is hosting a free self-defense seminar for women at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn skills that could help protect themselves and avoid attacks from strangers.

No experience is necessary to participate.

Comfortable workout clothes are encouraged.
The event is open to those ages 13 and up.

Benefit event for Grace Christian Academy

Cup O Joy, Green Bay

An event set to benefit the Grace Christian Academy’s capital campaign is set for 5 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Cup O Joy.

The event will feature music by Fernando Jimenez, food, couples activities and a discussion led by international speaker Mark Gungor.

Tickets start at $25.

Spring 2022 SOUP

Stadium View Bar and Grill, Green Bay

Current Young Professionals will host its biannual micro-grant fundraiser, SOUP (Support Of Urban Projects), beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the Stadium View Bar and Grill in Ashwaubenon.

The event gives community members the opportunity to choose which nonprofit organization’s project should receive a micro-grant – funded in part by soup purchases that evening.

Soup and food will be catered by Grounded Cafe, Soup Sisters, Plae Bistro, Stadium View Bar and Grill and bread will be provided by Great Harvest.

Tickets start at $10.

Jeremiah Jams

Saturday, May 28

Hagemeister Park, Green Bay

Known for its original psychedelic rock, Jeremiah Jams Band will perform at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, at Hagemeister Park for a summer kickoff party.

The band will jam out for more than three hours of original rock music.

There is no cover charge for the event.

Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for those 21 and older.
