Write On, Door County presents a virtual speculative/science fiction workshop – Hobbits, Heroes and Hovercrafts: Building Your Speculative Fiction Novel or Short Story – with Rebecca Zornow at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Zornow is a science fiction writer and the author of It’s Over or It’s Eden, her debut novel. She is the 2020 winner of The Hal Prize, and is also the board for the Fox Cities Book Festival.

The workshop will cover worldbuilding, reader expectations and drafting and editing tips. It will also discuss how speculative fiction explores the world through a different lens.

The workshop costs $15.

American Rinzai Zen

Every Sunday at 8 a.m. and Thursday at 6 p.m, the Green Bay Zen Center, located at 123 N Oakland Ave, offers American Rinzai Zen meditation.

American Rinzai Zen, or Rinzai Zen Buddhism, was the first Buddhist tradition to reach the U.S. Rinzai is one out of two major zen Buddhist sects in Japan, but actually originated in China. Some of the methods used to break through consciousness include katsu, or shouts, and mondo, which are question and answer sessions.

The Green Bay Zen Center, formerly known as The Green Tara Sangha, is one of the only Buddhist temples in Green Bay.

Sessions are free and open to the public.

The Drowsy Chaperone

The Drowsy Chaperone is coming to the Broadway Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, presented by Birder Players.

The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical comedy that parodies 1920s American musical comedies. The Man in Chair is a musical theatre fanatic, but agoraphobic. As he listens to 1928 comedy music, The Drowsy Chaperone, the characters and set come alive in his apartment, and he provides his commentary on the musical.

Tickets to the show are $33. Multiple shows are available.

Electric Lila Trio, Mother’s Ruin and Scary Canaries perform at the Lyric Room at 9 p.m. Feb. 18

Electric Lila Trio is a rock trio from Wisconsin that started in 2021.

Mother’s Ruin, a rock band known for its heavy blues from Central Wisconsin, started in fall of 2021. The band includes Kevin Troestler on vocals and guitar, Pete Koconis on bass and vocals and Alex Meronek on drums.

Scary Canaries, a Green Bay rock trio, formed in 2019. Its most recent album, Miles Apart, features indie-rock grooves and head-bobbing melodies on songs like “Carried Away” and “In My Dreams.”

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at Keggers, Exclusive Company, Rock n Roll Land, online and at the door. This is a 21+ only event.
