FROM THE PUBLISHER: The innocence of youth

By Patrick Wood

Dear Reader,

Tonight I looked and watched for shooting stars. Have you ever done that? When I was a kid I used to lie in the grass at night with a friend and search for shooting stars.

I knew that if you could see one you could make a wish and it would certainly come true if you didn’t tell anyone about it.

Ah, the pure innocence of those younger years. I can think of wishes I would make now, and it reads like the intentions at Mass – that the hungry will be fed, that the homeless will be sheltered, and that those in poor health will be relieved of pain.

But it takes more than wishes; it also takes actions.

This is why this newspaper is sponsoring an effort to help the homeless. Stay tuned for more details.
