Phoenix Secure third straight win over Cougars

Posted

GREEN BAY – On Friday, Sept. 6, the UW-Green Bay Phoenix men’s soccer (3-2 overall, 2-0 HL) continued their winning streak with a 1-0 victory over the Chicago State Cougars.

After an aggressive battle for the first quarter of the game, the Phoenix jumped out to a 1-0 lead on their second shot of the game in the 22nd minute when attacking midfielder Kolton Prater capitalized on the foul he drew outside of the box and buried his free kick in the back of the Cougars’ net.
Green Bay goalkeeper Drew Swancutt held the shutout for the Phoenix with three saves on his first collegiate career start at UW-Green Bay.

Super senior Joshua Johansen worked to keep the ball in the attacking third of the field for the Phoenix coming off a collarbone injury he sustained in the off-season.

The Phoenix battled to the end of the match with Jeloni Murray-Powll, Oscar Bjornskov and captain Kolton Prater each receiving a yellow card to match Chicago State’s three.

Green Bay outshot their opponent 6/10 to 3/6 for shots on goal.
After traveling to Bradley and securing a 2-1 win off a second career game-winning goal by Prater, the Phoenix look to remain undefeated at Aldo Santaga Stadium with their next home match on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. against Detroit Mercy.
