The wait is over! The curious planet, a sculpture by artist Olafur Eliasson, has officially been revealed on the patio of Mulva Cultural Center.
“‘The Curious Planet,’ my new artwork for Mulva Cultural Center, envisions a globe of networks,” said artist Olafur Eliasson about the sculpture.
“Reminiscent of brain synapse, lava trails or ripple marks, these networks mirror the intricate web of connections that bind us together to our environments. ‘The Curious Planet’ places faith in the recognition that everything is connected and constantly evolving.”
Eliasson is a Danish-Icelandic artist who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1989 to 1995 before founding Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin in 1995, which today includes a large team of craftspeople, architects, archivists, researchers, administrators, cooks, programmers, art historians and specialized technicians.
For nearly three decades, Eliasson has explored the conditions that inform our perception in sculptures, installations, paintings, photographs and public projects.
“The Curious Planet” furthers Eliasson’s ambition to promote a greater awareness of the way we engage with and interpret the world.
The sculpture has been in the works for over two years with support and involvement from Jim and Miriam Mulva throughout the process.
Installation of the piece started on the Center’s terrace earlier this summer and is a reflection of the Center’s vision of uniting the arts and sciences.
The piece brings the number of sculptures around Mulva Cultural Center to five, with each side of the Center displaying a unique piece.
