Dolores is the fifth full-length album by Holly using either the Non-Italians or the Nice Lions as part of the band name.
If you aren’t aware of this, Holly opted to change from the Non-Italians to the Nice Lions when Holly Beth Vincent of the band Holly and the Italians threatened legal action over the name.
Full confession, I got a kick out of the ruffled feathers of Holly Beth Vincent because many years ago when Holly Trasti and I both worked at the late, great The Exclusive Company, I suggested using the Non-Italians because I thought it was funny, a tribute to band I love and have a ton of respect for, and I was hoping that somehow Holly Beth Vincent would notice and react.
Holy cow, the look on my face years later when Holly Trasti told me my long-term plan finally came to fruition.
Lucky for Holly, she didn’t take my next suggestion and become Holly and the Fearful Iranians from Hell, and went with what one of her students’ suggestions and became the Nice Lions. Holly Trasti worked at The Exclusive Company for over 20 years and also has been a very important part of the Green Bay music scene for at least 20 years.
I have seen Holly’s incredible journey and progression to become a pillar of the Green Bay music scene with a front row seat.
Defunct venues such as the Eagles Club saw many of her bands early on and when The Art Table disbanded, we even saw Holly doing shows solo until she started to rope in area musicians to start the band that she still soldiers on with.
I have said for a while, when Green Bay or North Eastern Wisconsin finally has a Rock Hall Of Fame, Holly will be inducted in the charter class with Boris the Sprinkler, Fun W/Atoms, Suburban Mutilation, No Response, Giants Chair, Depo Provera, Crawl and Vacuum Scam. Dolores does nothing to shake my faith in Holly’s importance to Green Bay — it actually further expands and reinforces the conviction of my belief in her impact.
Holly and I are still working together after all these years via a record store because this album was released by the Green Bay UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records in conjunction with Certified PR Records of Saint Petersburg, Fla.
Well worth the trip because not only is this Holly’s best album, but the best sounding one.
When I saw Holly and the Nice Lions recently performing Dolores in its entirety at the MadWorld Artist Collective, I was thinking Holly and The Nice Lions would have been international superstars if they would have been around in the early ‘90s because they would have perfectly blended in with Soundgarden, L7, Mudhoney, Hole and Nirvana, who all were reshaping the musical tastes of the youth of the world.
Dolores also really has the vibe and tone of a band that was a huge influence on the ‘90s grudge wave — the mighty The Stooges.
Favorite songs on Dolores for me are “Crawl, “Technically Good!,” “Bring Your Goods,” “(Do the) Black Hole” and “Haunted Leather.”
The first 300 copies of the album are available on white vinyl and yes, we are well stocked with Dolores at the Green Bay UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records.
