GRB invites artists and nonprofits to help spread holiday cheer

Posted

Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) is inviting local artists and nonprofit organizations to help bring holiday cheer to travelers this season by decorating the airport’s signature holiday trees.

“Between late November and early January, GRB welcomes more than 100,000 passengers,” said Marty Piette, A.A.E., Airport Director at GRB. “This annual contest provides a unique opportunity to showcase creativity and community spirit to a large audience.”

The airport’s holiday centerpiece includes a 20-foot artificial pre-lit evergreen tree along with two 10-foot pre-lit trees.

This year, GRB is opening the design process to the community, inviting proposals for how the trees will be decorated.

“This initiative is a wonderful way to highlight the talent and impact of local artists and nonprofits while bringing joy to travelers during the holiday season,” said Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “In a festive and meaningful way, the airport is serving as a platform to showcase our community.”

A panel of three community judges, along with the airport director, will review all submissions. Winners will be announced on Oct. 31 and will begin decorating their assigned trees the week after Thanksgiving.

To support the winning designs, GRB will provide a $1,000 stipend for the 20-foot tree and $500 for each of the 10-foot trees.

Participants will also have the opportunity to display a sign describing their decorations and organizational mission.

Any artist or nonprofit organization is eligible to apply and are encouraged to submit applications including drawings, photos, videos or other creative materials.

Proposals will be accepted through Oct. 27 and should be submitted to susan.levitte@flygrb.com or delivered to the GRB Airport Administration Office.
