District Pour Haus opens in Ashwaubenon

Self-pour tap system offers unique customer experience

Posted

District Pour Haus officially opened in Ashwaubenon last week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, welcoming community members to try out the new self-pour experience.

“District PourHaus was an idea that I found in the self-pour wall technology right before COVID,” said Ty Smith, part owner and president of District PourHaus. “I started investigating and researching, but stopped because of VOCID. Over all these years, I’ve been to several locations across the country and I’ve been to conferences in regards to how the [self-pour system] works.”

For Smith, his interest lied both in the technology behind the system as well as the customer experience it offered.

“My whole career is technology, so I was really in the technology of it. And not only that, but for the customers it’s a no-wait tasting experience. You don’t have any bartenders so you don’t need to wait for them. You are the bartender.”

District Pour Haus features 48 self-serve taps with a wide variety of beers, wines and ciders, allowing customers the freedom to pour their own drinks at their own pace.

When customers come in, they’ll open a tab, receive a card, tap their card to the reader above the drink they’d like, and pour the amount they’d like into their glass, providing the flexibility for customers to pour themselves a full glass of a favorite drink or try smaller amounts of a wide variety of drinks.

“I walk in the door and I look around and I go, ‘I cannot believe we designed this,’” Smith said. “There was nothing but a brick wall here with windows and dirt on the ground. It’s just amazing. I know there’s going to be some ups and downs here that we have to go through, for sure. I just can’t believe we designed this and now it’s coming to fruition after all these years. I get very emotional about it.”

District PourHaus is a family operation — Smith’s wife, April serves as part own and CEO, his brother-in-law Les Kohl Jr. serves as a partner and operations manager, and his son Connor serves as assistant manager.

“I’m very thankful for my family and very thankful for all the people that have worked with us over these years,” Smith said.
