Brett Fuglestad is a senior at Bay Port High School currently playing tennis for the Pirates. Brett was also a key member of the soccer team last fall where he scored eight goals and had four assists.
Like his parents and three brothers before him, Brett will attend UW-Madison starting this fall. Heโs not sure what he will study yet, but something science related with the hopes of moving into pre-med is a possibility.

How do you pronounce your last name?
โFew-gull-stad.โ
Three older brothers?
โThe oldest is 25, the middle one is 23 and the third is 21. They all live in the Madison area right now.โ
What was it like being the youngest of four?
โWe get along pretty well together, but you could say that Iโm the pampered baby. We are a pretty agreeable group of guys.โ
It must be quiet at home now!
โIt was definitely an adjustment not having them at home anymore, but Iโve gotten used to it now. Itโs pretty quiet, but we still have our dogs.โ
Do you come from a sports family?
โMy oldest brother was into music, but my two middle brothers both played soccer. My mom was a swimmer and my dad played basketball.โ
Had you ever done any other high school sports?
โI played basketball my freshman and sophomore years, but then I realized I probably wouldnโt make the team the next two years with the talent we had on the team, so I became the manager instead starting my junior year. I enjoyed that because it kept me close to the sport.โ
Even though you play tennis, would you say your main sport is soccer?
โYes. I started playing when I was like 4 years old and got into select soccer when I was 10. I played football at Bay View and played varsity soccer at Bay Port my junior and senior years.โ
Whatโs the story behind tennis then?
โI first picked up a tennis racket my sophomore year because my brother played when he was a senior and I was a freshman. He said it was a lot of fun. Last year I played No. 2 doubles โ Iโll probably be in a similar spot this year again. Given the circumstances with me starting late, I think Iโve done pretty well.โ
How about a high school sport you wish you could have done?
โI wish I could have continued with basketball, but I was realistic about it all. I was also a kicker at Bay View when I played football there.โ
Do you have a most memorable sports moment?
โThis past fall in soccer when I got my first hat trick (three goals) against Sheboygan South. I scored two in the first half and one in the second. I also had an assist in that game.โ
How about a most embarrassing one?
โMy sophomore year in JV basketball I was on the floor at the end of the game during garbage time and threw the ball out of bounds to Alec Nagel, who was sitting on the bench.โ
I hear you can speak some German?
โI could probably go to Germany right now and survive okay. Iโve been taking it since the sixth grade. I wouldnโt say Iโm fluent in it but not bad.โ
Do you have a favorite family vacation?
โLast year my family went to Costa Rica. We stayed for a week โฆ half the time we were up by a volcano in the rain forest and the other half we were down on the beach. We did zip lining and rappelled down some waterfalls.โ
Whatโs on your music playlist?
โItโs an interesting mix, but either country or rap.โ
What are some of your non-sports related hobbies?
โI like watching Netflix, playing video games and hanging out with my friends.โ
What will you miss most about Bay Port?
โIโm going to miss seeing my friends every day since many of us are going our separate ways. I will miss the relationships Iโve made with some of the teachers.โ
How will Brett Fuglestad be remembered at Bay Port High School?
โThat Iโm a hard-working person who is pretty quiet and gets good grades.โ
Tiny house or tree house?
โTree house.โ
Chocolate or vanilla?
โChocolate.โ
Black or white?
โWhite.โ
Fruits or veggies?
โFruits.โ
Lie on the beach or ski down the slopes?
โLie on the beach.โ
