Review completed of officer who grabbed Dillon at soccer match
GREEN BAY – An internal review of an officer’s interaction with Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon at the Manchester City vs. FC Beyern Munich soccer match on July 23 has been completed by the Green Bay Police Department’s Professional Standards Division.
“I have sustained two allegations of GBPD policy violations by the officer involved and directed appropriate corrective action to be taken. We do not provide further detail on personnel matters out of respect for the employee’s due process rights. I apologize to Mr. Dillon for the way he was treated,” Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis said. “We appreciate the strong relationship we have with the Packers organization, and the GBPD remains committed to working with them along with the entire Green Bay community to provide the best and most professional police service possible.”
Dillon has said he was asked by other members of security to come on field to entertain the crowd during a rain delay, but that was not communicated to the officer.
Both Dillon and the Packers have said the incident was a miscommunication.
De Pere Historical Society to hold 53rd Annual Dinner
DE PERE – On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the De Pere Historical Society will host its 53rd annual dinner.
The dinner will be held at the Swan Club, 875 Heritage Rd., De Pere.
A cash bar will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The event will feature guest speaker Mike Van Asten, CEO of the Mulva Cultural Center, as well as the presentation of the Historic Preservation and Volunteer Awards and the De Pere Historical Society Building plans.
NDA student earns top ACT score
GREEN BAY – James Shade, son of Robert and Margaret Shade and a senior at Notre Dame Academy, earned a composite score of 36 on the ACT — the highest possible score.
Such a score is achieved by fewer than half of 1 percent of students who take the ACT each year.
A student’s composite ACT score is the average of their test scores in English, math, reading and science, with each subject scored on a scale of 1-36.
“Earning a top score on the ACT is a remarkable achievement,” ACT CEO Janet Godwin said. “A student’s exceptional score of 36 will provide any college or university with ample evidence of their readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead.”
St. Mary’s to host “Blessing of the Animals” event
GREEN BAY – Oct. 4 is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, known as the patron saint of animals.
In honor of St. Francis’ life of love and service, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center, 1726 Shawano Ave, will host a free “Blessing of the Animals” event at 1 p.m. Oct. 2.
Community members are invited to bring their leashed pets, or photos of their pets, to be blessed at this outdoor, Ecumenical event.
UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records opens
GREEN BAY – Sept. 28 marked the opening of Green Bay UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records, located at 2248 University Ave.
The retail store, owned and operated by former The Exclusive Company employee Pierre Jacque, will feature recorded music and sounds on many formats as well as otherworldly odds and ends including toys and VHS tapes.
33rd Annual CP Auction
GREEN BAY – One of CP’s signature events, the 33rd Annual CP Auction will be held Oct. 14.
The CP Auction is presented by KBX and Breakthrough and will be a night of fun and high bidding, featuring items donated from area businesses.
“We are really excited about this year’s event in a new location,” said Beth Paul, Annual Giving Coordinator for CP. “The night will feature silent auction items including weekend trips, gourmet food baskets and unique handcrafted items. There is something for everyone to bid on.”
Leading the live-auction portion of the event will be Bill Jartz from WBAY-TV2.
Ticketholders will also have the option to participate in several raffles.
“We wanted to mix things up and provide a gaming element to the night,” Paul said. “This way, guests can mingle through the auction items, have fun with raffles and just enjoy a great night.”
Funds raised from the CP Auction will go towards supporting the therapy and life skills services provided by CP to more than 2,100 people throughout Northeast Wisconsin.
Ruggiero named TitletownTech advisor
GREEN BAY – Four-time Olympian and global sports leader Angela Ruggiero has been appointed to the advisory team of TitletownTech, a venture capital firm formed out of a partnership between the Green Bay Packers and Microsoft.
Ruggiero’s duties as an advisor will include sourcing, evaluating and mentoring companies in the firm’s portfolio and extending the greater network.
Considered one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time, Ruggiero has earned four successive Olympic medals in ice hockey, been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, served as a member of the International Olympic Committee and played a pivotal role in bringing the 2028 Olympics to her hometown of Los Angeles.
Ruggiero earned her MBA and BA at Harvard and her master’s in education at the University of Minnesota.
“Sports technology is a fast-growing investment sector witnessing an influx of talented new market entrants,” Ruggiero said. “I am looking forward to helping bring to market those entrants that will define the future of sports and media.”
Railroad improvement loans for two area projects
BROWN COUNTY – Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) recently announced nearly $8 million in grants and loans to support five freight rail improvement projects across the state.
In Brown County, McDonald Companies received a Freight Railroad Infrastructure Improvement Program loan of $492,791.
The loan will fund the reconstruction of 521 feet of spur track that would serve a warehouse in Green Bay, allowing McDonald Companies’ tenant Quincy Recycled Paper to transport recycled fiber by rail to Green Bay Packaging’s new paper mill and other Wisconsin mills.
“The movement of products and commodities is the lifeblood of our economy, affecting nearly every aspect of our lives,” WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson said. “Strategic investments that improve connectivity and efficiency of freight rail have a big impact on urban and rural communities all across the state.”
Upgrade at Brown County Waste Transfer Station
BROWN COUNTY – After years of accepting waste, the concrete floor at the Brown County Solid Waste Transfer Station, located at 3734 W. Mason St. in Hobart, has worn out.
Beginning Oct. 3, construction will begin to remove the old floor and pour new concrete.
Customers are encouraged to avoid long wait times by bringing acceptable materials to the South Landfill, located at 1258 Mill Road in Greenleaf, until construction is completed.
Construction is expected to be completed and all six drop-off lanes reopened at the end of October.
Scholarships awarded to UWGB nursing students
GREEN BAY – Ten nursing students at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) received scholarships from Aurora BayCare Medical Center.
The scholarships, ranging from $2,500-$5,000, represent part of the more than $125,000 dedicated by Aurora Baycare to support nursing students at UWGB over the next several years.
“Providing this support at UW-Green Bay is just one way that we can invest in Wisconsin’s nursing workforce, and in the coming years, that investment will reflect in the excellent care nurses will provide for our community,” Heather Schroeder, vice president and chief nurse officer for Aurora BayCare, said.

The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week highlights the Importance of fire escape planning.
