Muraski named new De Pere Police Chief

DE PERE – The De Pere Police and Fire Commission selected Police Captain Jeremy Muraski to become De Pere’s new police chief, effective Dec. 23.

He will replace outgoing Chief Derek Beiderwieden.

Beiderwiden is retiring after nearly 20 years of service for the City of De Pere.

Muraski also has a long-tenured history in local law enforcement, serving for 21 years with the Green Bay Police Department before joining De Pere Police Department as captain in 2019.

Throughout his career, Muraski has been a decorated, adaptable, and innovative leader, including winning awards in 2010 for saving individuals trapped in a house fire; advancing mental health initiatives in communities; updating critical investigation processes for crime and death scenes; revamping OWI Search Warrant templates; seeking out educational and training opportunities and grants for himself and others; implementing new programs for victims of domestic violence and more.

He has also planned numerous presidential and VIP visits, Green Bay Packers games, and Super Bowl victory events and parades, among others.

In De Pere, Muraski currently supervises all day-to-day operations of the uniformed Patrol Division, is active in numerous community engagement events, and has done extensive work to maintain or implement new equipment, training and technology within the department, among many other duties and initiatives.

Muraski is a 1996 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and law.

He has earned numerous certifications and accreditations since then and became a graduate of the FBI National Academy in March 2016.

“Captain Muraski is an excellent leader, and one we are thrilled to see take over as Police Chief in our community,” De Pere Mayor James Boyd said. “Our city has long been known for its safety and high quality of life, and we look forward to Captain Muraski continuing this standard while also spearheading new ways of offering progressive, innovative, responsive, and professional policing in the City of De Pere.”

The city used executive search firm Baker Tilly to conduct a national search, which began in August.

Four finalists were interviewed by the PFC for the position after other panel interviews were completed by internal and external stakeholders.
