BROWN COUNTY – Green Bay Preble’s Carley Duffney was recently named the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

Duffney, a junior commit to the University of South Dakota, averaged 17.5 points and 4.3 assists per conference game.

“I am honored to be the player of the year,” said Duffney. “There are lots of amazing players in the FRCC, so to have the other coaches notice me for being a good player, it feels great. Other players deserved the award, too.”

Duffney also chimed in on the recently canceled basketball state tournaments.

“I feel bad because I know how hard all the teams worked to get there,” she said. “It’s sad for the teams who were making their first appearances and the seniors who won’t get a chance to play there again.”

Duffney is also a WIAA state qualifier in track and field, where she runs the hurdles.

“I’m disappointed track is not going on now, but I still have hope we’ll have at least a little season,” she said. “One of my senior friends, Aubrie Gorski, has been looking forward to breaking some records, and now she might not get the chance. I didn’t think I would, but I miss not being in school.”

Locally, Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Preble, Green Bay Southwest, Notre Dame Academy and Pulaski compete in the FRCC.

Preble teammate Kendall Renard, a UW-Green Bay commit, was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Bay Port head coach Kati Coleman was selected as the Coach of the Year.

The Pirates, who won the conference for the third season in a row, ended with a 16-2 record.
