Notre Dame Academy names new athletic director

GREEN BAY – Notre Dame Academy recently named Matthew Koenig as its athletic director.

Koenig will begin at Notre Dame in late July.

He joins Notre Dame with 14 years of experience leading athletic programs, most recently serving as athletic director at St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Senior High School in St. Bernard, Ohio, where he oversaw a staff of over 40 coaches and was nominated for the 2019 Cincinnati.com Sports Award/USA Today Network Athletic Director of the Year.

“Matt brings a wealth of experience and is well prepared to lead the athletic program,” said Notre Dame principal Patrick Browne. “What most impressed me is how he responded to both coaches and students during the interview process.”

Koenig will oversee an athletics program comprised of 33 teams, with approximately 300 student-athletes and more than 40 coaches.

“My family is excited to have me moving to Green Bay, as we have been away from family for too long,” Koenig said. “It will be great to live close to my sister, mom and a number of other relatives.”

In addition to leading the athletic program at St. Bernard-Elmwood, he also directed the athletic program at Bethel-Tate and Kings Local School District and was the commissioner of the Greater Catholic League in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati where he oversaw eight high school programs.

Koenig earned his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University where he majored in sports management.

In addition to his love of athletics, he also enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.
