SEYMOUR – Seymour Community School District Director of Teaching and Learning Jenny Pierre was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers (WSST) for her work with science education in Wisconsin.

The WSST Administrator’s Award is designed to acknowledge the superior administrators who promote, showcase and support science education.

Pierre has been the school’s director of teaching and learning since 2010, where she has focused on student engagement and achievement through assisting the science department in unpacking the standards and evaluating the current status for each standard within the science curriculum.

“She knows the importance of engaging students in science through implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards and using the science and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts and phenomena based science instruction and hands-on investigations. Jenny has provided an instructional coach at each of her buildings to develop and provide professional development where teachers need it the most,” a WSST release stated.

“Jenny understands the importance of professional development and collaboration as well supporting teachers as a priority, knowing the positive difference that makes on student achievement.”

Sarah Klingbile, science teacher at Seymour Community High School, said that she has “witnessed Jennifer’s unwavering commitment to advancing science education and fostering a passion for learning in students.”

Amy Schumacher, learning support/instructional coach at Seymour, believes that Jenny’s “visionary leadership has empowered [their] educators to think creatively and collaboratively, resulting in a curriculum that not only meets but exceeds instructional goals.”
