GREEN BAY – UW-Green Bay has announced the name of the newest dorm on campus — it’s first in a decade — currently being built.
Christened “Cort Condon Hall,” it is a nod to Gerald C. “Cort” Condon, Jr., a board member on the colleges’ non-profit University Village Housing, Inc (UVHI).
UVHI began in the 1980s out of necessity for more housing opportunities for the growing number of residential students.
Chancellor Edward Weidner approached a group of local businessmen with the idea of constructing affordable housing on the campus.
Cort Condon became a member of UVHI and played an important role in the development of 17 residential properties, with the 18th as his namesake.
In addition to being the chairman of UVHI, Condon is also involved with the college as a board of directors member for the UW-Green Bay Foundation and served on the UW-Green Bay Council of Trustees.
In the wider Green Bay community, he is also known for Condon & Herald, at which he is an attorney and partner.
The decision to name the newest dorm after Condon came from the UVHI board members themselves.
He was specifically chosen because “Mr. Condon has served for many years on the UVHI Board, as well as being a key advocate for the new building. The name was selected to honor his work both on campus and in the Green Bay community,” shared Kristin Bouchard, assistant director of communications.
UW-Green Bay will host a ribbon cutting ceremony with tours of Cort Condon Hall in the fall.
