What inspired you to start your golf journey?

My Grandpa. He was an avid golfer and loved the game.

How has balancing academics and athletics been different for you from freshman to senior year?

As a freshman, we were still transitioning from online to in-person school again, so it was fairly easy to make up for the work that I missed. Now that I’m a senior, it is harder as I have more difficult classes, but I now know how to balance it out with golf.

What is the best part about golfing?

I like how you can make golf a very relaxing thing to do but also make it very competitive. It’s also very rewarding when you hit a great shot.

Who’s your golfing idol?

Adam Scott

What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Playing and practicing with my friends. I also love the van rides before and after any tournaments, as we talk about strategy beforehand and the crazy shots we hit after the round.

Has there been an individual who played a role in shaping the athlete you’ve become today?

My parents and grandparents as they taught me the game and would always give me rides to the golf course. Also, my golf coach Carolyn Barnett-Howe.

What is the most challenging aspect of golf?

Being consistent. One round, I could be playing well and hitting the ball solidly, but then the next I could hit it awfully. It is a different challenge every day, whether it’s the course conditions or your own swing.

Being a senior, describe some leadership roles that come into play.

I have to set a good example for others, so when we’re at the course practicing, I’m not goofing around like some other kids, I’m practicing with a purpose to get better.

What is the first golfing milestone you achieved?

I made my first eagle when I was 12

What’s the most challenging course you’ve ever played?

Whistling Straits – Straits Course

What is your favorite sports quote?

“Just tap it in” – Happy Gilmore

How does athletics make you a better student/worker/person?

Playing sports helps you become disciplined, a good teammate, and determined. Playing golf, I have to do all these things to be successful, and the same is true for being a good person.

What age were you when you got your first set of clubs and began golfing?

I was around 5 when I got my first set of plastic clubs, but I didn’t get into golf until I was 12.

Are there any memorable coaches or teammates you would like to give a shout-out to?

Coaches Wolf and Dessart for giving the best advice and all the teammates I have had to this point. Carter, Brayden, Grant, Weisy, Sam, and Cal.

What are your plans for the future?

I will be attending the University of Nebraska for golf management and sports media and communications. My dream job is to be a sports broadcaster.

Any advice you would give to your younger self?

Make the most out of every round because every round is meaningful.
