GREEN BAY – Green Bay Preble High School has recently announced the hiring of Mark Jonas as the newest head coach of the varsity football program.

After finishing the 2023 season with a record of 1-8 overall and 1-6 on the season, the Preble Hornets finished in sixth place in the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) under head coach Dustin Gresen.

Coaching experience

Jonas has extensive coaching experience in the area, leading multiple programs as the head coach of Southern Door, Ashwaubenon, Kaukauna and Oconomowoc.

As one of the most prominent high school coaches in the state, Jonas was recently inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2022.

Jonas began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Reedsville.

He then dedicated over a decade of his career to bringing up the program at Hilbert, spending five years as an assistant coach and six as the head coach, taking them to two state championships — one in 1994 and another in 1996.

Welcoming the Jonas Family

In hiring Mark, the Green Bay Preble athletics program proudly welcomes the Jonas family, including Mark’s wife Kristen and the couple’s five children — Shaw, Cole, Maezy, Rhett and Nelson.

“Mark brings a tremendous amount of experience along with a great deal of energy to the position”, said Director of Athletics at Preble Dan Retzki. “His experience in the conference will allow him to hit the ground running as he develops his staff and focuses on our out-of-season training.”
