HOWARD – Keith Van Rixel, who has been in the flooring business for over 30 years, recently opened a flooring/retail store in Howard, called “KVR Floors and More.”
This store, which expands upon the flooring business Van Rixel already had, focuses on providing an array of flooring products in addition to installation services.
“We are now a flooring retail store offering a wide variety of products from luxury vinyl plank, carpet and tile to tile showers, customer rugs and professional installation,” he said.
“I started KVR Flooring 30 years ago as a flooring installation business. I always thought about opening my own retail store. So the opportunity was there and I opened up KVR Floors & more. I started building it out in July 2023 and opened for business Nov. 1.”
Van Rixel has been in the flooring business for decades, but has recently wanted a change.
On the topic of being a business owner, he said, “I’ve always wanted to start a retail business whether it be a flooring store or something else. Whenever I worked for another company I was really never happy working for a weekly paycheck. I was more looking at the owner and saying to myself ‘I want to be that guy instead.’”
Van Rixel said his clientele ranges from “residential and commercial with veterans, senior citizens and builders discounts.”
Overall, Van Rixel has said that being directly involved in his own business has been very fulfilling, and recommends it to anyone who would like to be their own boss.
For aspiring business owners, he said, “my advice to upcoming business owners is to stay focused on your idea, work hard, and don’t give up.”
