Janice Baeten

Fortified by the sacraments of the Catholic Church, Janice R. Baeten, 86, De Pere, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023. I was born March 23, 1937, to the late Jacob and Lauretta (Williamsen) Kamps.

I grew up helping my family at Green Bay Floral, which my parents had started, and graduated from Annunciation Grade School and St. Joseph Academy.

On July 23, 1960, I was united in marriage to Allen โ€œOtchโ€ Baeten at St. Jude Catholic Church.

I was primarily a stay-at-home mom, though I worked for my sister and brother-in-law and later my nephews and their wives at the Greenhouse throughout the years. Since Otch and I were married, we have been members of St. Boniface/Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.

Crocheting blankets for family and throw blankets for residents at Rennes was something I would do to pass the time in the winter months. Cooking and baking were two things I really enjoyed, and I would make sure the kids and grandkids (and their coworkers) were fully supplied with chocolate chip, sugar, or molasses cookies. An avid reader, I pretty much was in the middle of a book all the time. Our cottage on Lake Mary has been a place to go for over 47 years.

My husband, children (and their spouses), and grandchildren were the most important part of my life and know that Otch and I have instilled values in them to proudly carry on our legacy.

I leave behind my husband Allen โ€œOtchโ€, children; Mike (Barb) Baeten, Laurie (Dale) Wishart, Lisa (Steve) Basche, and Scott (Carrie) Baeten. Grandchildren; Rachel Hill, Mark (Rachel) Wishart, Ryan Wishart, Ian (Tahlia) Basche, Kassie Baeten, Caleb Baeten, and Seth Baeten. Two great grandsons, Gavin and Carson. Sisters-in-law Evelyn Kamps, Judy Kamps, Mary Eileen Baeten, Jean Shaughnessy, and Betty Baeten. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul & Pat Baeten.

Besides my parents, I was preceded in death by our son Mark T. Baeten who passed away May 3, 1981, my sister, and brother-in law Eunice (Mel) Kujava, and two brothers, Bill Kamps, and Joe Kamps. Allenโ€™s family; Bede (Evelyn) Baeten, Cy Baeten, Mark Baeten, Patrick Shaughnessy, and Tom (Carol) Baeten.

Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00PM Monday, October 23, 2023, with a parish prayer service at 7:00PM to bring the evening to a close. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere after 9:00AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM with Fr. James Baraniak O.Praem. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are asked to be given to the two things most near and dear to my heart, University of Wisconsin Foundation, for Renal Transplant research and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Special thanks to the staffs of St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice, your kindness will long be remembered.

โ€œNow Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word.โ€

Luke 2:29
