GREEN BAY – Nominations are open for the 2023 ATHENA Leadership Award.
This award recognizes an individual who is committed to their profession, serving their community and working towards the advancement of women.
The ATHENA Leadership Award is given out globally by ATHENA International, a nonprofit organization aimed towards the empowerment of women.
The organization began in 1982 with Marth Mayhood Mertz as the founder and since then there have been over 8,000 recipients of the award all over the world.
According to their website, the organization created the Athena Leadership Model which shows how “uniquely women lead as the Eight Principles of Enlightened Leadership are to live authentically, learn constantly, build relationships, foster collaboration, act courageously, advocate fiercely, give back and celebrate.
ATHENA also offers programs that focus on leadership for women, men and high school students as well as middle school students.
The Greater Green Bay Chamber has been giving this award out since 1985 as their first winner was Dorthy Galigher.
The 2022 recipient of the award was Bridget O’Connor as the award is presented annually.
The previous recipients of the award are in charge of going through the nominees and deciding on the new recipient to join them as judges the following year.
Nominations are open to all individuals, not just females, who show qualities of empowering women in their personal lives as well as in their work and community, performing outstandingly in their profession and being positively involved in their community.
The 2023 ATHENA Leadership Award winner will be announced at the 2023 Chamber Annual Dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 5-8:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center.
The winners for the Daniel Whitney award and the Ambassador of the Year award will be announced during the dinner as well. Details about tickets for the event will be available soon.
Nominations are due Sunday, June 25 by 11:59 p.m.
