Cockloft Vintage opens on Broadway

Broadway

GREEN BAY – There’s an unfamiliar term making a big buzz in the Broadway District.

A new business recently moved into a vacant space in the Broadway corridor and its name is making people ask questions.

What is a cockloft?

“I wanted something different, yet old school,” Owner Tina Kelly said.

Cockloft Vintage opened its doors just last month and features hand-selected vintage goods and clothing.

Kelly said the retail shop promotes preloved, sustainable fashion with a story.

She said the term “cockloft” is an old English term meaning attic or small loft below the roof – making it a perfect name for the shop.

“Cockloft is factual and intriguing,” Kelly said. “People tell me constantly – ‘we love it. We see it and we just can’t look away.’”

Even the store’s logo has a vintage feel – boasting a picture of an old farmhouse.

She said she is excited for the shop to be part of the positive changes happening in the Broadway District.

“I feel my shop brings in the traditional or weathered folks that love and appreciate the older era,” Kelly said.

She said the store also lures the newest of generations who are environmentally conscious.

“It is a new era that continues to embrace sustainable fashion, which is not only amazing for our community, but our environment as a whole,” Kelly said.

Nestled near the corner of North Broadway and Hubbard, Kelly said the shop is a great place to stop and find something unique to wear or have as a part of your home.

She said there are racks filled with clothing options for all ages – items which she said she mostly finds at auctions and estate sales.

“Not only is each and every piece personally curated by yours truly, but each piece has a story,” Kelly said. “It could be a house dress worn by a homemaker in the ’50s, or a pair of ’60s or ’70s denim trousers that danced the night away. What about a traditional Pyrex bowl that saw dinner every single evening amongst a family of seven?”

She said many customers that come in to browse her inventory end up reminiscing about a memory pertaining to the items they see.

Kelly said it’s nice to see people have so many positive feelings after coming to her store.

The new retail store can be found at 163 N. Broadway in downtown Green Bay.

Right now, Kelly said the shop will be open on Wednesdays this summer season during the Farmers’ Market on Broadway.

She said there are also store hours posted on the Cockloft Vintage Instagram and Facebook pages for Fridays and Saturdays.

Kelly said an official ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for the new business in August, with a final date and time to be announced soon.
