Area wrestlers punch ticket to state

BROWN COUNTY – Several area wrestlers punched their ticket to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual State Tournament with strong performances at sectionals Feb. 19.

Only the top two wrestlers in each weight class advanced to the state tournament Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 24-26, at the Kohl Center in Madison.

At the Division 1 Hortonville Sectional, area schools Pulaski (third – 96.5 points), De Pere (fifth – 74.5), Bay Port (seventh – 66), West De Pere (11th – 30), Green Bay Preble (12th – 8), Ashwaubenon (tie-14th – 0) and Green Bay United (tie-14th – 0) competed.

At the Division 2 Oconto Falls Sectional, Seymour was the only local team to compete.

The Thunder finished 14th with 19 points.
