Area swimmers, diver advance to Division 1 state meet

NEENAH – Several area girls’ swimmers and a diver advanced to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 1 State Meet with strong performances at the Neenah Sectional Nov. 6.

Individually, Green Bay United’s (GBU) Brigitta Neverman was a double-winner in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.47) and 100 butterfly (55.37).

Other individual GBU swimmers to advance were Ivana Neverman in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.36) and 200 IM (2:08.01) and Ella Sieber in the 200 freestyle (1:57.16) and 100 backstroke (59.38).

GBU’s 400 freestyle relay team (3:34.27) of Ivana Neverman, Ella Sieber, Claire Sieber and Brigitta Neverman advanced.

GBU’s 200 medley relay team (1:49.38) of Sieber, Ivana Neverman, Brigitta Neverman and Lily Awe advanced.

Bay Port swimmers to advance were Emily Calaway in the 500 freestyle (5:14.61), Sydney Aird (1:05.98) and Addy Zurowski (1:06.8) in the 100 breaststroke and Adie Tooley in the 200 IM (2:11.18).

De Pere United’s Kate Schmoll advanced in the 100 butterfly (58.31), while Carly Larson did the same in the 100 butterfly (56.32) and 100 backstroke (59.45).

Schmoll also recently advanced to the state cross country meet, where she placed seventh overall.

Pulaski diver Taya Schmidt (392.1) advanced in the 1-meter competition.

In the team competition, Bay Port (282) finished third behind Appleton North (358) and Oshkosh West (309), respectively.

GBU (230 – fourth), De Pere United (195 – sixth) and Pulaski (96 – 10th) also had strong showings.

The WIAA Swimming and Diving Championships are Friday-Saturday, Nov. 12-13, at the Waukesha South Natatorium.
