Book sales, high school plays and more in this week’s roundup of notable events

The Drowsy Chaperone
Friday, Nov. 5
East High School, Green Bay
East High School presents its fall theater production, “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
The Tony Award-winning story follows the story of a man in a chair who uses his collection of records to influence the lives and futures of passersby such as a newlywed couple, a budding theater director, a distracted chaperone and more odd characters.
The cast, crew and pit band are all East High School students. East High School will also be participating in the National High School Music Theatre Program and Jimmy Awards Program through the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.
The show is family-friendly and East High School welcomes guests of all ages. The high school production will be on display Nov. 5, 6, 10 and 13. Showtimes are at 7 pm on Nov. 5, 6 and 10 and at 1 pm on Nov. 13.
All audience members are required to wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose to attend the production. Seating is socially distanced.

Accordion aficionados gather in Green Bay
Saturday, Nov. 6
Elks Lodge, Green Bay
Accordion fans new and old will have a chance to gather and test their chops on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Elks Lodge (3195 S Ridge Rd).
This monthly gathering features performances from local accordion groups, with this month’s featured performance by the Ryan Kautzer trio (pictured above.)
In addition to the melodious sound of squeezeboxes, this monthly gathering also includes a potluck lunch and raffle. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are highly encouraged to keep the monthly gatherings afloat.

Books, books and more books
Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6
Brown County Central Library, Green Bay
The Friends of Brown County Library hosts its annual blowout sale.
On Friday and Saturday, book-hungry patrons can get literal bags worth of gently used books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and more. On Friday, shoppers will be charged $5 for their first bag of books and $3 for every bag after. On Saturday, every bag is $1.
The sale benefits the programs and services of Brown County Libraries. Both events start at 9 am. Friday’s event ends at 4:30 pm and Saturday’s event ends at 1 pm.

Student art exhibit opens
Monday, Nov. 8
St. Norbert College’s Baer Gallery, De Pere
College art students at St. Norbert College (SNC) will debut and showcase their work at an upcoming gallery exhibit.
A selection of juried artists will select pieces throughout the exhibition that are exemplary.
The Baer Gallery hosts a series of rotating exhibitions throughout the year.
The exhibit opens on Monday, Nov. 8 is on display until Dec. 3.
On Monday, students will be present for an awards ceremony and launch event which begins at 5 pm. More information can be found at www.snc.edu/artgalleries.
Fermentation education
Tuesday, Nov. 9
Neville Public Museum, Green Bay
STEAM Engine, a local, rotating speaker series event hosts its final production on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
STEAM (as in Science, Technology, Education, Art and Math) Engine pools local experts from various fields to focus on a single topic and how it relates to the speaker’s field. This year’s focus is fermentation.
This year will feature talks from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay probiotic-health lecturer Jill Larson, Badger State Brewing Co. Brewer Brian Jacobs and Neville Public Museum Deputy Director Kevin Cullen.
The event is free and open to the public. It is held at Neville Public Museum (210 Museum P) and starts at 6 pm.
The event also features live music from local musician Matt Hilton of Pegasis. Masks are required and social distance will be observed. More information can be found at www.steamenginegb.com
Spoken Word at The Tarlton
Thursday, Nov. 11
The Tarlton Theatre, Green Bay
Local poet and hip-hop performer Cujo hosts a night of poetry pen mic and poetry.
According to the online event page, Cujo is described as a poet who aims to demonstrate that poetry, in particular, has the unique ability to offer people the experience of common understanding, empathy and acceptance which are all pillars of a healthy community and a healthy individual mindset alike.
The night is free and open to the public. Patrons are encouraged to take the mic and express themselves through poetry, spoken word, storytelling and other forms of expression.
The night kicks off at 7 pm. Guests are encouraged to signup from 7 to 7:30 pm for a slot on stage.
