John Prine covers, giving kids books, Halloween parties and more

Friday, Oct. 29—Meyer Theatre, Green Bay
Billy Prine, the younger brother of the late folk icon John Prine, hits the Meyer Theatre stage alongside special guest David Huckfelt of the Pines.
Billy will offer up covers and original songs to the crowd, each one detailing a moment of significance to his late brother’s life.
John Prine was a two-time Grammy-winning songwriter known for his stripped-back songs that revolved around social commentary, life struggles and family. John passed away on April 7, 2020.

Halloween weekend local band showcase
Saturday, Oct. 30—Frets and Friends, Green Bay
Green Bay bar and venue Frets and Friends (2105 University Ave) hosts a range of indie, punk and emo bands on Halloween weekend with a costume party on Saturday, Oct. 30.
The night kicks off at 8:30 pm and there is no cover charge. Green Bay City Pages highly recommends you tip your bands and bartenders.
Scary Canaries (pictured) is a Green Bay three-piece pop-punk band that delves into blues-rock with gruff vocals and twangy melodies. The group released a new album “Miles Apart” over the summer.
Floral Friday is a Green Bay rock band that blends pop-punk and alternative-rock hooks. Their 2021 single “Brighter Day features bright melodies and pop sensibilities with heavy, pulsing rock passage.
Sherry Lane is a Green Bay indie rock group who released their debut album “American Dream” this year. The album features jangling, beach-rock-influenced songs such as “American Dream” and “Our Last Movie.

Brunch, ft. Disco and costumes
Sunday, Oct. 31—Titletown Brewing Co., Green Bay
Halloween Sunday is full of tricks and treats. But one local event is focused on brunch and beats.
Titletown Brewing Co. hosts an array of experimental, jazz and electronic musicians such as DJ Vekked, The Vibe Center, Ludafist, Hecubus and more.
Guests, 21-years-old and over, are encouraged to leave their candy at home and enjoy the brewery’s yogurt parfait bar. Guests are, however, strongly encouraged to dress in costumes.

Secondhand Serenade
Wednesday, Nov. 3—Epic Event Center, Green Bay
John Vesely, vocalist, pianist, guitarist and the brain behind acoustic rock project Secondhand Serenade, comes to Green Bay.
Secondhand Serenade is a California-founded acoustic rock and indie project founded in 2004. Vessely gained widespread popularity with his 2008 single “Fall for You” and has since released three more studio albums and a smattering of compilations, demo tapes and singles.
Vessely is joined by Maryland-based alternative rock band The Dangerous Summer alongside SayWeCanFly, the emo, the acoustic solo project of Braden Barrie.

Give-A-Kid-A-Book kicks off with Packers’ families
Wednesday, Nov. 3—Brown County Central Library, Green Bay
Friends of the Brown County Library and its honorary chairs, Molly Crosby (wife of Green Bay Packers’ kicker Mason Crosby) and Aiyda Cobb (wife of Packers’ Wide Receiver Randall Cobb), are gearing up for the 33rd annual Give-A-Kid-A-Book campaign.
The book distribution campaign calls on residents, businesses, churches and other organizations to donate new, unwrapped books in time for the holidays. Books will be distributed to local children ages 0 – 18 in low-income families.
The campaign kicks off at the Brown County Central Library (515 Pine St) on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 9 am with a presentation from both Cobb and Crosby alongside students from Tank Elementary School.
Interested parties can donate books through the library’s Amazon wish list (tinyurl.com/GiveAKidABookWishlist), local Green Bay bookstore Lion’s Mouth Bookstore (401 N. Washington St), donating in-store Barnes & Noble purchases using the code “12606984” on Nov. 20, or online from Nov. 20-25. There are also drop boxes available at Nicolet National banks and Brown County libraries throughout the area until Dec. 10.
