Tecmo Super Bowl National Championship coming to Howard

HOWARD – If you’re old enough to remember Nintendo’s Tecmo Super Bowl, you have a chance to brush up on your skills Saturday, April 17, at the Watering Hole in Howard.

Tundra Bowl VIII is organized and run by director Nate Smithson.

“Last year, we gave away nearly $5,000 in cash and prizes,” said Smithson. “We had 81 registered players. Players are flying in from states all over the country. We are giving away cash and prizes, including autographed NFL jerseys and more.”

This year, the tournament is again raising money for Harry Sydney’s foundation, My Brother’s Keeper.

Sydney is an ex-Green Bay Packers player.

Over the last two years, more than $1,100 has been raised for the organization.

The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is another charity monies are being raised for this year.

Tecmo Super Bowl is celebrating its 30th year since being released on the original Nintendo.

“I’ve spoken with various radio shows on the national level about our tournament the past couple of years,” Smithson said. “With our tournament being here in Howard, more Tecmo Super Bowl interest comes from Wisconsin than any other state.”

Smithson can be reached by phone at 920-562-4634.
