Green Bay Phoenix basketball recaps

GREEN BAY – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s and women’s basketball teams were in action this past weekend.

The men lost a pair at Detroit Mercy, while the women won two at Purdue Fort Wayne.

Men stumble in Michigan

The men lost 86-61 and 68-65 games to the Titans.

The setbacks dropped Green Bay to 3-11 overall and 3-7 in the Horizon League.

In Friday’s game, the Phoenix trailed 44-31 at the break on their way to the 25-point loss.

PJ Pipes recorded 17 points, while Josh Jefferson dropped in 10.

Green Bay shot only two free throws the entire game, while Detroit had four players score in double digits.

In the second game, the Phoenix led 33-30 at halftime, with Ansong Emmanuel (16), Jefferson (14) and Davis (10) all scoring in double digits.

Green Bay Southwest graduate Lucas Stieber chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and a steal.

Green Bay next hosts Purdue Fort Wayne in back-to-back contests Jan. 22-23.

Women extend win streak

The Phoenix women extended their win streak to six games with two convincing wins in Indiana.

Green Bay (7-4, 6-2) recorded 62-46 and 70-59 victories over the Mastodons.

In the first game, the Phoenix led only 24-21 at the break but outscored Purdue Fort Wayne by eight points in the third quarter.

Lyndsey Robson and Sydney Levy scored 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Levy hit 4-of-8 3-point attempts.

In the Saturday game, Green Bay got 13 points from Seymour graduate Hailey Oskey on 6-of-8 shooting.

Robson added 10 points for the Phoenix, who shot 49 percent overall for the game.

Green Bay next travels to Cleveland State Jan. 22-23 for two games.
