Abi Herbst is a senior on the Ashwaubenon dance team, which has won multiple events at state over the years.

She said her favorite move in a competition is the front walkover, round-off backhand spring.

Herbst plans to enroll in the U.S. Air Force Academy located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

When did your interest in dance begin?

“In the eighth grade. It was the first year of the middle school team.”

What are the last gifts you gave someone?

“A blanket, candle and Skittles for their birthday.”

What’s your most embarrassing dance moment?

“At state we were performing kick, and I tripped over myself. Thank goodness it wasn’t too noticeable.”

Which teammate could perform on “Dancing with the Stars?”

“Jaelyn Hoppman, because she’s one of our best dancers and has been doing it a long time.”

What’s your most memorable moment? 

“My sophomore year when we won two state titles. It was the best feeling in my life.”

If you woke up and had 1,000 unread texts and could answer 200 of them, how would you choose which ones to answer?

“My family would come first and then work. Third, any dance-group chats to make sure I don’t miss anything important.”

What are your goals for this season?

“With everything crazy going on, I hope we have a fun season and enjoy it with each other.”

What are your favorite numbers?

“Two and 16.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? 

“John Wick.”

Who inspires you?

“My grandmothers.”

How would you confront bullying if you witnessed it?

“I would confront the situation and then comfort the victim as I have done in the past.”

Spider-Man, Wonder Woman or Batman?

“I like Wonder Woman. I’ve never watched Spider-Man or Batman.”

What’s your dream job?

“Whatever makes me happy when I reach a certain point in my life. I’m open to new adventures and opportunities.”

What are your hobbies? 

“I like the gym, hanging out with friends and family and cooking.”

What’s your favorite event attended? 

“Any family vacation or event we’ve gone to.”

What’s your favorite day of the week?

“Friday, because it’s the beginning of the weekend. Otherwise, Monday, because we have dance practice, and I get to see my friends.”

What’s your favorite music genre?

“Country.”

What’s the hardest class at Ashwaubenon?

“Precalculus.”

“Australia.”

Do you have any siblings?

“I have one older sister, Ashton, who is 21. She graduated from Ashwaubenon but now lives in New York with her husband at Fort Drum. She’s studying biochemistry through The State University of New York (SUNY).”

What did you do for your community service hours at Ashwaubenon?

“I did a significant amount of my community service with Colton’s Cure Foundation. I also helped with the summer school program.”

Favorite wake-up food or drink before going to school?

“If I’m up early enough, a protein shake from Rock Your Body, or Starbucks.”

Talk about your dance coaches.

“Rodney (Anderson) and Drew (Meinel) are dedicated to their jobs. They push my teammates and me to be our best, not only in dance but in school and life.”
