St. Norbert to discontinue club hockey

DE PERE – St. Norbert College is discontinuing sponsorship of its American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) club men’s ice hockey team, effective immediately.

“This was a decision borne out of a confluence of several factors,” St. Norbert Athletics Director Tim Bald said. “The varsity men’s ice hockey program is not affected in any way by the decision to discontinue a club hockey team.”

The club hockey team started about 25 years ago and was considered a junior varsity squad, playing other sub-varsity or ACHA club programs.

Starting in 2018, to continue playing club teams affiliated with the ACHA, St. Norbert had to move its junior varsity program to ACHA status.

St. Norbert does not sponsor a separate sub-varsity program for any of its other 23 sports.

All of the other St. Norbert programs are aligned under the NCAA sports-sponsorship structure.
