Josh DeLange is a recent graduate of Notre Dame Academy.
He played hockey for the state runner-up Tritons.
DeLange plans to play junior hockey in Canada beginning this fall and eventually study business/marketing in college.
His hobbies include fishing, golfing, playing video games and hanging out with friends.
Tell me about your family.
“I have a step-brother and a step-sister, my mom is from Manitowoc and now lives in Neenah and my dad grew up in Rochester, Minnesota.”
Did your parents play sports?
“My dad played hockey and baseball in high school and my step-dad played Division I college hockey at Miami University in Ohio.”
What’s your most embarrassing hockey moment?
“This past season against Bay Port, I was skating to the puck, completely missed it and fell.”
Was Bay Port your biggest rival?
“Yes. We always had big crowds and a great atmosphere.”
Have you ever tried playing goalie?
“No. My dad played goalie, and he always tried to get me to play it.”
You had a great season. Do you still think about the state title loss?
“After the loss happened, I couldn’t get it off my mind for a few weeks. I still think about it once in a while, but you have to move on and focus on your future.”
How do you see your hockey career playing out?
“I’ll play in Canada for a year, come back to the United States and play in the North American Hockey League, play in the United States Hockey League for a year and then have a college offer me a scholarship.”
Are you nervous to leave Green Bay and head to Canada?
“I’m excited to start a new journey. I’ll be playing in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the Battlefords North Stars. It will be a new change, but it’s out of my comfort zone.”
Did you ever consider golfing at Notre Dame?
“Not really. I did it for fun in high school, but now I take it more seriously.”
How was your online schooling at Notre Dame?
“It was weird at first – I had no idea what to do – but as the days went on, I got more used to it. I wish we could have finished at school.”
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
“I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota.”
What three words describe you?
“Crazy, exciting, fun.”
What will you miss about Notre Dame?
“Not being at the rink every day with my teammates, my friends and the atmosphere.”
