Andrew Aderhold is a senior at Bay Port High School on the track and field and cross country teams.

His hobbies include fishing, hunting and being outdoors.

Aderhold will be attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado this fall to study mechanical engineering.

He’s a two-time state qualifier in cross country.

Tell me about your family.

“I have an older sister, Lauren, and she’s a junior at UW-Eau Claire studying special education. My dad grew up near Rice Lake, and my mom is from outside of Milwaukee in Dousman.”

Do you come from a sports family?

“Lauren played soccer and basketball, my mom ran cross country and track and my dad played baseball, football and basketball.”

Is there a track event you wish you had tried?

“The discus looked fun, but I’m not built for it.”

What was it like having Andy Nuthals as your track and field coach?

“He’s an awesome coach and cares about everyone on the team. He believes in being a team player.”

What’s your most memorable sports moment?

“My sophomore year at sectionals at Colburn Park. Each of us finished strong the last half mile, and we placed second as a team to qualify for the WIAA state meet.”

An embarrassing one?

“Last season in the first race, I slipped and fell, but got back up and started running again. I also got stung by a bee in my junior year and didn’t realize it until after I finished.”

What’s the most miles you’ve run in a day?

“Fifteen.”

Have you ever done a half marathon?

“I’ve done two – the Green Bay Cellcom and one in Door County.”

Do you have thoughts of doing a marathon someday?

“I’d love to do Boston.”

Will you run at the Air Force Academy?

“Just recreationally but not on a team.”

How are you staying busy not being in school due to COVID-19?

“With my online schooling, working out once or twice a day and taking the dog for walks.”

This is not how you envisioned your senior year ending.

“It’s frustrating, but it is what it is. It’s not how I envisioned it ending, but I’m looking forward to college.”

What’s your dream job?

“I’d love to become an airline pilot.”

What’s something about you most people wouldn’t know?

“I’m not musically inclined, but I like ‘70s and ‘80s classic rock. ‘Boston’ is my favorite band.”

What three words describe you?

“Driven, leader, hungry.”

Hungry with your motivation or with wanting food?

“Both.”

You were also involved with DECA (Distribution Education Clubs of America) at Bay Port.

“We had the state competition about a week before everything was shut down due to COVID-19. I qualified for nationals in Nashville, but it got canceled. I went to nationals last year and had a top-10 showing.”

What will you miss about Bay Port?

“My friends mostly. I have a diverse group of friends being in track, cross country and DECA. I miss them because we are stuck at home.”
