ASHWAUBENON – The Green Bay Booyah baseball team recently announced the signing of Clemson University’s Bo Majkowski.
Bo is the son of Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame quarterback Don Majkowski, who played with the team from 1987-1992.
A native of Johns Creek, Georgia, Majkowski was in his junior year with the Tigers before the season was cut short because of COVID-19.
“I made the decision to come up myself,” said Majkowski. “My dad didn’t influence me at all. I thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the same city where he played professional football. Obviously, my dad is ecstatic for me, and he’ll probably spend a good amount of time up there with me.”
When Don Majkowski was in Wisconsin last July competing in the Packers Hall of Fame Golf Classic, he said his retirement is about following his son’s baseball career.
“I’m enjoying life and love following my son,” he said at the time. “This is a full-time job for me, and I love it.”
Majkowski, a 5-foot-11 outfielder, started 10 games for Clemson this year.
“The Northwoods League plays lots of games and is competitive, so I’m excited about that,” he said. “With our season getting cut short in college, it’s a perfect opportunity. I miss sports so much, so I hope we get to play. The team has a great fan base.”
The Tigers went 9-1 in those games, which saw Majkowski go perfect in 27 fielding chances.
During his sophomore year in 2019, the left-handed-hitting Majkowski appeared in 27 Atlantic Coast Conference games, hitting .294.
“Clemson has done an unbelievable job developing the whole team,” he said. “They get us ready to play and work us out hard in the fall. We’re always ready to play.”
Green Bay Preble’s Max Wagner is a Clemson baseball commit and will be heading to South Carolina this fall to join Majkowski on the roster.
“That’s my boy,” Majkowski said about Wagner. “I need another Packers fan with me at school. I had one other guy on the team last year who liked the Packers, but that’s it. We’d go to a pizza joint down here that’s a certified Packers bar and watch the games. Max is a great player and will be a good addition to the team.”
In a released statement April 17, the Northwoods League announced due to Wisconsin’s Stay at Home order through May 26, a league-wide opening the same day is no longer possible.
If the league does play this summer, Majkowski said he expects to see some family members in the stands.
“My mom’s (Kelly) family is from Menomonee Falls, so it will be fun to have a dozen relatives watching me play,” he said. “Except for my mom’s parents coming down, they haven’t gotten a chance to see me play.”
Majkowski said he’s been to Green Bay a few times over the years but is excited about more opportunities.
“My dad and I came up for the Chicago Bears game last season and spent three days in Green Bay,” he said. “I haven’t seen the stadium yet, but I hear it’s nice.”
