Steuer and Yewman square off for District 10 in Green Bay

By Press Times Staff

GREEN BAY – Green Bay city council president Mark Steuer is being challenged for his District 10 seat by Basil Yewman.

Steuer has served on the council since 2012.

District 10 covers part of west Green Bay.

The Press Times emailed both candidates the same questions and gave them 100 words to answer each.

Mark Steuer

Why should people vote for you?

I’ve had the honor of representing District 10 since 2012.

Whether it’s fixing roads, dealing with speeders, proactively diminishing the rat issue, backing strong neighborhoods, or advancing economic development projects, I’ve always been a phone call, an email or a visit away from working with the citizens of District 10 on these and other issues.

I’ve taken a leadership role in the city by serving presently as the city council president.

Before that, I served four years as the city council vice president.

Going through eight city budget cycles has helped to hone my public service and political skill sets.

Mark Steuer

What’s the biggest issue in District 10?

The biggest issue is repairing city roads and infrastructure.

I recently created a database from the PASER (Pavement Surface Evaluations and Ratings) Report that pinpointed the roads in Green Bay most in need of repair.

I then shared that report with each of the 11 Green Bay alders in order to keep the issue at the forefront.

Along with the Wheel Tax and aiming for measured deliverables from the newly created 5-Year Capital Improvement Program, road repairs in Green Bay are happening and will continue to happen at a good pace.

What do you support to improve the image of the west side?

As a west sider, I have strived to improve the image of the area by helping to create the West Side Trail, with efforts to connect it to the Mountain Bay Trail in Howard; keeping a close eye on vacant and condemned properties in order to enhance neighborhood vitality; looking for adaptive reuse possibilities for vacant, underutilized or troubled commercial properties; aiming to bring pickle ball to area indoor and outdoor venues; and creating a musical hall of fame for Green Bay and Northeast Wisconsin; and all of this on the west side of Green Bay.

Why should people vote for you?

I was born and raised in Green Bay and am a long-time resident of District 10.

I care about my community and want to make it a better place to live for all families as well as longtime residents.

What’s the biggest issue in District 10?

I would have to say the biggest issue in District 10 is our infrastructure.

What do you support to improve the image of the west side?

I support the improvement of our infrastructure, our parks, and the redevelopment of Military Avenue.
