Dunning beats school record at Arkansas track and field invitational

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – Ashwaubenon High School graduate Mia Dunning broke a school record and recorded a pair of top-five finishes Jan. 17 at a University of Arkansas-Little Rock track and field invitational.

The freshman Dunning broke a 23-year-old school record in the weight throw with a toss of 52 feet and one 1/2 inch, which was good enough for third overall at the meet.

The weight throw, most often held indoors, is the equivalent to the hammer throw event, which can only be held outdoors.

Dunning also placed fourth in the shot put with a personal best throw (41-4.25).

That mark ranks as the sixth-best shot put toss in school history.

With about 10,000 students, UA-Little Rock is a Division I school which competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
