GREEN BAY — The Green Bay women’s basketball team went ice-cold in the second quarter in its 54-42 Horizon League loss to IUPUI at the Kress Events Center Jan. 17.

The 42 points were a season-low, surpassing the 55 points scored in a loss to South Dakota St. Dec. 21.

“We haven’t shot the ball well,” said Green Bay head coach Kevin Borseth. “I don’t know if we haven’t shot the ball well because we don’t shoot well or are not getting rhythm. I don’t think we are getting any rhythm right now, and we have to find it.”

Green Bay (8-10 overall, 3-3 Horizon) was paced by Frankie Wurtz’s 14 points.

Hailey Oskey chipped in seven points, while Caitlyn Hibner led the Phoenix with nine rebounds.

Rachel McLimore led three Jaguars in double figures with 17 points.

IUPUI (12-6 overall, 6-1 Horizon) connected on 43 percent of its three-point shots, while Green Bay was only 17-of-56 overall from the field.

With 1,827 on hand to watch the league-leading Jaguars, it was the Phoenix who enjoyed their only lead of the night after Wurtz connected on the first two points of the game.

IUPUI scored 13 of the next 17 points to take a 13-6 lead.

Mackenzie Wolf and Oskey got involved in Green Bay’s offense, trimming the lead to 19-18 after the opening quarter.

Unfortunately, the Phoenix was 1-of-11 from the field in the second quarter and turned the ball over three times.

It added up to a 13-2 run for the Jaguars and a 32-19 lead at the break.

IUPUI came out of halftime and took its biggest lead of the game at 44-25 after McLimore hit a runner in the lane.

The Phoenix cut into the margin twice but never could get it to single digits.

The loss for Green Bay matched its conference loss total from last year.

The last time the Phoenix has had four or more losses in a season was during 1996-97 (11-5) when Carol Hammerle was at the helm.

“We are not playing the way we are capable of playing,” Borseth said. “Lots of it has to do with the fact, and you can’t make excuses, we haven’t had a full team the entire year.”
