GREEN BAY – Jack Schumer is a senior member of the Notre Dame Academy boys’ basketball team.

Schumer, whose favorite movie is “Saving Private Ryan,” is a 6-foot-2 forward averaging about seven points per game for the Tritons.

He also played volleyball last fall and golfed as a sophomore.

“Volleyball was lots of fun,” said Schumer. “Last basketball season, I sprained my ankle eight or nine times throughout the year, and I had surgery to tighten things up. I had to sit out golf last spring and missed almost the entire summer.”

Schumer is unsure if he will hit the links this spring with the team.

“Golf is a sport I do for fun,” he said. “I also ran cross country my freshman and sophomore year. I played football in middle school but didn’t join when I enrolled at Notre Dame.”

Schumer’s parents, Cathy and Ray, were born in Illinois but moved the family to the Green Bay area when Jack was 11 months old.

“Green Bay is all I’ve ever known,” Schumer said. “Although I live here, I’m a Bears’ fan. My dad is a big Chicago fan, and it’s grown on me.”

After graduating from Notre Dame this spring, Schumer said Carthage College in Kenosha is a possibility, but he won’t play basketball collegiately and is unsure of his course of study.

In his free time, he is involved with shooting trap with other friends at Notre Dame.

Schumer also likes to travel, be outdoors and view nature.

“I feel I am a caring individual,” said Schumer, who also described himself as athletic, smart and kind. “I want to be remembered at Notre Dame as a kid who wasn’t into all of the bad stuff but was still fun, was good at sports and someone you’d want to be friends with.”

Schumer said he is excited about a trip to Norway this spring/summer with his family.

“When my sister Megan was a student at Notre Dame, she was able to go on two of the school trips around Europe, and I wasn’t able to do the same thing,” he said. “I’ve wanted to travel to Europe, so my family let me plan a trip. I’ve always thought Norway would be cool to see. We are going on a river cruise, hiking and exploring some fjords.”

Megan is a third-year student at the University of Iowa studying neurobiology and psychology.

Schumer is an animal lover and has a 7-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever/lab named Coolidge.

He also likes French toast, the color blue, Sour Patch Kids and Monopoly.
