Local wrestlers battle on the bay

SUAMICO – Several Green Bay area wrestlers participated in the 27-team Battle on the Bay tournament at Bay Port High School Dec. 14.

Three local wrestlers won titles: De Pere’s Shane Corrigan in the 106-pound weight class, Ashwaubenon’s Connor Ramage at 170 and Bay Port’s Max Meeuwsen in the heavyweight division.

Corrigan beat Joey Showalter (Elkhorn) via technical fall (22-5) in the championship.

Ramage pinned Lucas Benn (Mukwonago) at the 5:33 mark of his title match.

Meeuwsen, the defending Division 1 heavyweight state champion, beat Tyler Pitcel (Mukwonago) by a 9-3 decision to claim his title.

Second-place winners were Cody Minor (Ashwaubenon – 132), Jacob Ward (Bay Port – 138), Noah Leisgang (Ashwaubenon – 152), Dawson Dembroski (Ashwaubenon – 160), Jordan Vandehei (Ashwaubenon – 182) and Nathan Moynihan (Ashwaubenon – 220).

Third-place winners were Alec Ukkola (West De Pere – 126) and Drake Anderson (Bay Port – 195).

De Pere (third), Ashwaubenon (fifth), Bay Port (eighth), West De Pere (11th), Green Bay Preble (18th) and Green Bay United (26th) participated.
