Name: Autumn Campbell

Activity: Equestrian

Autumn Campbell is a senior at Ashwaubenon High School who lists patience, determination, confidence, courage and passion as qualities she possesses to manage horses effectively.

Talk about competing in competitions, and how it’s scored?

“I do dressage, so at competitions, I ride a dressage test, which is a series of movements the horse and rider must perform. Each test I do is judged, and I receive a percentage back [65 percent and higher is a good score] as well as comments from the judge.”

What’s the hardest part about riding a horse?

“Most people think riding a horse is easy and you don’t do much work when riding, which is false. Horseback riding is not an easy sport. It takes a lot of your time and skill to work with horses. I’ve been riding for about six or seven years, and I still learn something new every day.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be?

“I would be Kendall Jenner. I would like to see what her daily life is like doing photoshoots and spending time with the Kardashian family. She also rides horses, which is really cool.”

Talk about the process before you saddle up and ride a horse and then the breakdown process afterward.

“If the horse I ride isn’t inside yet for dinner, I have to go grab him from the pastures. I make sure to grab all of his and my gear and groom him, so he is nice and clean with no dirt on him where the saddle goes. After he is groomed, I put the saddle and bridle on and bring him into the arena to ride him. I usually ride him for about 30 minutes to an hour. Afterward, you have to make sure he isn’t hot or sweaty and is cooled down enough. Then I groom him again and make sure he is all set for the night.”

What are your college aspirations?

“I plan to go to college somewhere near home so I can continue riding throughout school. I’ve only toured a couple of universities, and my two favorites were Bellin and St. Norbert.”

What would your dream job be once you graduate?

“After high school, I would like to become a radiologic technician dealing with x-rays. I’ve broken a few bones from riding, and this career has interested me. My second option is to become a family and consumer science teacher.”

Where is your favorite place to ride?

“At shows, because I love the overall feeling of being at one.”

What are some other hobbies?

“I like to do art, photography and bake.”

What is an accomplishment you are proud of?

“My high grades and grade point average. Throughout my years in high school, I received high academic honors.”

What is your favorite type of music?

“Country, pop or rap.”

Name a favorite family activity.

“Spending the day in Door County or taking trips down to Illinois to spend time with other family members.”

Do you have a nickname?

“My grandma has always called me ‘pumpkin’ since I was younger.”

What three words describe you?

“Trustworthy, motivated, caring.”

What is your favorite trip ever taken?

“I haven’t been on many trips in my life, but I hope to go on more in the future. However, one of my favorite ones was going to Door County to spend time with my friend at her house. We rode around on her four-wheeler, hung out at the beach, explored the area and spent time with her animals. She has horses, minis, alpacas, camels and a kangaroo.”

What is one place/location you could go forever to ride your horses?

“I’m not sure. My dream place to ride would be somewhere with temperatures ranging from 60 to 70 degrees, a beach nearby and many trails to ride on.”
