igNight Market going strong in its third year

GREEN BAY – An underutilized street in the Broadway District will be transformed into a contemporary, open-air marketplace this weekend for the last igNight Market of the season.

This igNight market, a traveling night market focusing on arts and culture, will be held at 200 N. Pearl St.
“We bring in original artists and work with organizations to produce live, interactive art pieces,” said Chelsea Kocken, marketing and events manager for On Broadway. “It really is meant to be an event where there is something different happening everywhere you go and experience things you don’t see other places.”

This is the third year for the market, which was modeled after similar events in Madison, Milwaukee and Appleton, and it continues to attract nearly a thousand attendees for each event.

“We are in our third year with this event and the community loves it,” Kocken said. “The response has gotten better with each year. The crowds are coming out, the community is getting involved and our vendor base continues to grow.”

This Saturday’s event runs from 5-10 p.m. and will feature several dozen local vendors including artisans, interactive art demonstrations, live music performances, life-size games, food and drinks.

“There will be live music that includes a live art demonstration, construction of the mobile art piece will be complete, new vendors will be showcasing their products and of course, new art experiences,” Kocken said.

Music gets under way at 5 p.m. with The Art-Hop Collective, followed by DJ DSCRIBE at 8:30 p.m.

Each market over the summer was held at a different location in the Broadway District.

Earlier sites included 200 Museum Place (Neville Public Museum), 500 S. Broadway (under the Mason Street overpass) and Leicht Memorial Park.

Kocken said igNight Markets will be back next summer.

“We have continued support form our title sponsor Fox Communities Credit Union to make this event possible,” Kocken said. “They have been great partners for bringing such wonderful activity to the Broadway District and we are excited to begin planning already for 2020.”
