BROWN COUNTY – He considers himself a humble servant – serving nearly 19 years on the county board, 10 of those years as board chairman, two as vice-chair.

But Patrick W. Moynihan, Jr.’s days on the board are coming to an end. He announced Wednesday, Aug. 21, he won’t be seeking re-election.

“After nearly 19 years it was time to close this particular chapter of public service and look to the future for new opportunities,” Moynihan said.

But his days serving the public aren’t necessarily over.

Moynihan announced one day later, Thursday, Aug. 22, he will be running as a Republican candidate for Brown County clerk for the fall 2020 elections.

Moynihan made his announcement following incumbent Brown County Clerk Sandy Juno’s decision not to seek re-election to a four-year term.

Moynihan represents District 22 on the county board, which includes portions of Ashwaubenon, De Pere and Lawrence.

Moynihan, who was re-elected in April to a three-year term as village clerk/treasurer, said he won’t be running for re-election to a two-year term on the county board next April to focus on his candidacy for county clerk.

“I am running for county clerk because I believe it’s imperative that we protect our most sacred part of being a democracy, which is to guarantee secure, fair and transparent elections,” said Moynihan. “I have the necessary experience and strong relationships with my constituents, our board of supervisors, and the municipal governments to carry out the vital functions of the county clerk in a way that delivers efficient and timely services to all Brown County residents.”

When asked why he became a county supervisor nearly two decades ago, Moynihan said it’s simple,

“I enjoy serving my friends, neighbors and fellow residents,” he said. “I enjoy being a part of the decision-making process, weighing facts of a matter with the best information possible on behalf of my constituents.”

Moynihan, who has served as the clerk/treasurer in Ashwaubenon since 2014, is a member of the Wisconsin Municipal Clerk’s Association, Municipal Treasurers of Wisconsin and Project Vote.

He also holds the designation of Wisconsin Certified Municipal Clerk from the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association.

A United States military veteran, Moynihan was honorably discharged as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and as a specialist four in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He is a member of the Ashwaubenon Historical Society, Ashwaubenon Business Association, Green Bay Moose Lodge 801, American Legion Post 518 and Friends of the Brown County Veterans Memorial.

Moynihan resides in the Village of Ashwaubenon with his wife, Sara Thompson. He is a father, and grandfather of seven.

“My bride, Sara and I enjoy antiquing and traveling,” Moynihan said.
