Nagel named state soccer player of the year

BROWN COUNTY – Several area girls’ soccer players were recently recognized statewide and in the Fox River Classic Conference.

Bay Port’s Emma Nagel was named the FRCC player of the year and first team all-state by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association.

For her efforts, the junior Nagel, a Drake University recruit who scored 42 goals and recorded 15 assists for the state-qualifying Pirates, was also named the WSCA player of the year.

“I am so thankful for being given this opportunity to play this sport and for being surrounded by such amazing people,” said Nagel. “This award definitely took a village – from the constant help from my coaches, teammates, family and community, I am so honored. I truly couldn’t have done this on my own.”

Alaina Abel, also from Bay Port, was named the defensive player of the year in the FRCC.

Abel, a Loyola-Chicago recruit, was also named first team all-state from her defensive position.

In addition, Green Bay Preble’s Lily Sinkler was named the offensive player of the year in the conference.

FRCC first team: Abel (Bay Port – defense), Mac Johnson (Bay Port – forward), Grace Krause (Bay Port – defense), Nagel (Bay Port – forward), Abby Nystrom (De Pere – defense), Taylor Witteck (De Pere – forward), McKayla Zastrow (De Pere – midfield), Sinkler (Preble – forward), Taylor Johnson (Green Bay Southwest – forward).

Second team: Hailey Kane (Bay Port – defense), Ava Style (Bay Port – midfield), Sophie Hubbard (De Pere – forward), Payton Cunningham (Preble – forward), Annabelle Olson (Preble – midfield), Lexi Siegle (Southwest – midfield), Jenna Cuene (Notre Dame Academy – forward), Vanessa Grunwald (Pulaski – midfield), Maggie Hernandez (Pulaski – forward).

Honorable mention: Gianna Bachmeier (Ashwaubenon – defense), Gabby Langenhuizen (Ashwaubenon – forward), Lauren Bradley (Bay Port – midfield), Megan Nygaard (Bay Port – keeper), Skyler Meulemans (De Pere – defense), Cami Daily (Preble – midfield), Maddie McDermott (Preble – midfield), Tori Ellis (Southwest – keeper), Lucy Lindstrom (Southwest – defense), Aubrie Selsmeyer (Southwest – midfield), Keighley Blindauer (Notre Dame – forward), Izzy Kellner (Notre Dame – forward), Claire Noble (Notre Dame – forward), Emily Noble (Notre Dame – defense), Riley Vandenhouten (Notre Dame – defense), Malorie Schultz (Pulaski – keeper), Rachel Wasielewski (Pulaski – defense).

Other all-state honors: In addition to Nagel and Abel, Mac Johnson (second team), Grace Krause (honorable mention), Emily Gorzlancyk (West De Pere – honorable mention), Sinkler (honorable mention) and Zastrow (honorable mention) were named to the all-state team.
