Hobart swears in two new police officers

HOBART – Before family, friends and the Hobart village board, the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department officially welcomed its two newest police officers on March 5.

Sarah Manning and George Peterson were sworn into duty and took their oaths of honor.

Both Manning and Peterson are currently in the training process with other HLPD officers.

Manning grew up in Lena, and graduated from Lena High School.

While in high school Manning played volleyball and basketball.

She now coaches these two sports for Lena High School. She was involved in many clubs while in high school including the National Honor Society, Student Council, Lettermen’s Club and the FFA.

Manning graduated from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in 2018 with a degree in criminal justice.

She also started her career in law enforcement in June 2018 as a part time police officer with the Village of Lena Police Department.

Manning said she is excited to start her career with the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department and she is thankful for all of the support she has received from her family and friends as she starts the next chapter of her life.

George Peterson

Peterson graduated from Watersmeet High School in 2006.

He went to Gogebic Community College, where he played basketball for two years.

Peterson studied criminal justice at Gogebic College. He then attended the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire after Gogebic Community College.

In 2012, Peterson graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy in Eau Claire at Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Shortly after graduation, he was offered a job with the Lac Vieux Desert Police Department in Watersmeet, Michigan.

While working for the Lac Vieux Desert police, Peterson gained valuable on-the-job training and experience.
he has also worked in South Dakota where he worked with the drug task force on many serious crimes.

After working in South Dakota for a short time, Peterson went back to the Lac Vieux Desert Police Department and continued his law enforcement work there.

He obtained many different trainings and certifications during his time at LVD.

Peterson was the school resource officer for the Watersmeet Township School District.

He said he is excited to work for the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department and these two communities.

Peterson enjoys going to Packers, Brewers and Badgers games.

He enjoys both watching and playing basketball as well as other sports. He also enjoys hunting and fishing.
