SUAMICO—Ozan Kalafat and Victor Kostov each won two individual races as the Bay Port Pirates boys’ swim team swept all 11 varsity events in defeating the Ashwaubenon Jaguars by 80 points in a dual meet held Jan. 17, at the Lineville Intermediate School pool.
“We did a bit of cross-training tonight,” said Steve Jeffers, Bay Port head coach. “We gave some kids some opportunities with different strokes tonight, so they don’t get burnt out. It’s nice to mix it up as well so they stay fresh.”
In addition to the eight individual wins, Bay port swept all three relay races.
“Every match/dual has its timetable in which it falls into place,” said Jim Merner, Ashwaubenon head coach. “Bay Port looked tremendous tonight, especially in the relays. Obviously every race is important but we try and gear the kids in practice and Invites to peak for Sectionals and State. We try and learn and get better from these swims.”
With the win, Bay Port remains undefeated (5-0 FRCC) and pulls back even with GB United whom they will face on Jan. 22 to determine the regular season champion. Ashwaubenon falls to 2-3 in the FRCC.
“I thought Victor swam well today,” Jeffers added about the match. “He took off I think around seven seconds in the 500 freestyle from his previous time. We have the big match with GBU next week which will be good preparation and then we gear up for the final kick of the season in which we have big goals set for our team.”
