Lubinski named Ashwaubenon art student of the month

ASHWAUBENON – Grace Lubinski was named the Ashwaubenon High School Art Student of the Month for December.

Lubinski is being recognized for her outstanding artistry and technical skills in drawing, painting and illustration.

Outside of the art rooms, she volunteers her time and skills at Pioneer and Valley View elementary schools assisting the staff with enrichment activities.

What art classes have you studied at Ashwaubenon High School or in the community?

“I have taken art classes all throughout my four years at Ashwaubenon. I have taken classes from intro art to higher level painting courses.”

What lessons have you learned from studying art?

“I’ve learned to be patient and go with the flow of things. A lot of times you have an idea of how you want your piece to turn out but it can end up very different. You have to take a few steps back from your piece every now and then to see how things are going and go from there.”

What is your favorite medium and why?

“My favorite medium is acrylic paint on canvas. I like this medium because it is very forgiving. You can create many different looks with it by varying textures. The trial and error of mixing colors can be time consuming, but it’s interesting to see what you can do.”

What is your most memorable art experience?

“My most memorable art experience is my independent study I had with Ms. Becker last term. She taught me lots of helpful techniques and critiques all in a fun environment.”

How do you envision art as a part of your life?

“Art will be a part of my life forever – I’m planning to major in fine arts to become an interior designer or graphic designer. Even if that changes, I can still picture myself incorporating art as a hobby in my downtime: making paintings or doodles.”

Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?

“A lot of my ideas for my art come from online or on apps such as Pinterest. I like to find inspiration on there and just add my own twist to it. A few of my ideas also come from social reform movements. I like to create pieces people can relate to and pieces that spark thoughts inside the viewer’s head.”
